Honoring Her on Mother’s Day

People have been celebrating their mothers for thousands of years. In fact, we have records of holidays as far back as Greek and Roman cultures. However, Mother’s Day as we recognize it today was unrelated to those ancient cultures. It may have begun as a Christian tradition in Europe called “Mothering Sunday”, which was observed on the last weekend of Lent. Established as a day for people to return to their “mother church”, it evolved into a day to have reunions with family and bringing their mothers flowers and small gifts.
